I wish I was alone right now

In collaboration with Donald Ryan, Soccer Club Club presents I wish I was alone right now, a two-person exhibition by John Henderson and B. Ingrid Olson.

Soccer Club Club is located in a former Polish social club with the original decor unchanged, including a functional bar, dance floor and sound booth. In contrast to the former use of the space, both artists are interested in solitude and isolation as it relates to the acts of thinking, making and viewing. Henderson’s paintings self-consciously embrace an anxiety of production, situating the painterly act within the constraints of mechanical reproduction. Olson’s sculptural and photographic works are studies of bodies within architectural space, staging approaches to materiality, gender, plurality, and power.

The two artists live in Chicago and have worked separately in adjoining studios for more than a decade. This exhibition marks the first occasion their respective works have been installed in conversation.
